Segway? What's that then?

Most people (even if they don't immediately recognise the name) have heard of a Segway. It's a two-wheeled, one-man vehicle that moves according to the direction you lean in. Jamiroqui's front man JK has one. It must be good then.

Described by Segway themselves as "the world’s first self-balancing personal transportation device", Segway actually have an impressive product range for something that you don't exactly see every day.

We met with Mike Reeves, the official UK (South) agent for Segway, to discuss his new venture - Segway Tours - a company offering off-road tours on Segway machines, aimed at both the general public and Corporate Entertainment companies.

For the website, the indentity needed to be established so that styles and colours were consistent across all forms of the company's branding - business cards, brochures, etc.

Thankfully we were able to work closely with a professional graphic designer from FUSS Design - who created website 'mock-ups' in Photoshop for Mike:

Once the website style had been selected, we begain work on converting the Photoshop files into a working Joomla template. The template itself has been built from the ground up and, as with all custom templates produced by toolbox:creations, is completely table-less. Thanks to the clean simplicity of the template, loading times are excellent. Currently the template is highly robust and dynamic according to what content is loaded, and features:

- Collapsable bottom module locations
- Custom collapsable sub-menu system
- Unique location text
- Invisible, stackable right-hand module area
- Slimbox gallery integration
- AJAX fading images

...automatically-generated thumbnail galleries - so the galleries can be easily updated at any time, without the need for time-consuming image manipulation...

...and Slimbox image pop-ups for browsing the gallery images. This allows users to browse the gallery without being distracted by the surrounding page, and the transitions are all fully animated, resulting in a simple yet stunningly presented gallery, which is a breeze to update:

The project is due for completion at the end of January.
